Recruitment..is there a better way??

I’ve mentioned in previous posts that the Dead Jesters have an ongoing recruitment drive. The idea behind this is to increase the number of active players and enable us to have some larger fleet mining ops and grind some lvl 4’s for ISK and salvage etc etc.

We are a high sec, non PVP based corp and we’re not in an alliance.

So far despite having forum posts (see here), Corp adverts in-game and spamming the Recruitment chat channel I’ve managed to find a total of zero people willing to join, in fact interest is in general low..

So this makes me think either the number of new or old players looking for corps is low, the Jesters currently don’t offer anything “special” that would make people want to join or I am looking in the wrong places. I admit I don’t spend hours trying to recruit but how much effort is required?? Are there resources that I am missing that could increase the number of intereted people??

So my loyal reader(s) do you have secrets to recruitment success you can share? Am I fighting a losing battle in trying to get corp numbers up, when battling against the larger more well known corps that have lots to offer??

Thanks for reading

Look for (non-macro) players that are still in newbie corps, are in small number (1-5 man) corps, or are out running missions/mining by themseves, and talk to them! If y’all are out doing a mining op, and there’s a lone Hulk and/or Hauler, covo em, invite em to the gang and offer them a cut (mention to them gang bonus…) — then offer them a new corp.

There’s many people out there playing by themselves or in inactive corps, looking for friends to play with, you just need to get “face-to-face” with them and offer it to them.

Hello m8, when I’m online later (after all this boring work stuff) I will drop you an eve mail or chat if you are in-game. We’re not too worried about low SP these things take time and we are happy to provide advice etc.

I’ve done corp recruiting before for a high-sec mission/mining corp. You need to differentiate yourself from the other corps doing the same thing.

From your advert its difficult to see what your focus is, and what sort of players you are after, it reads like a ‘we want anyone and everyone’ type post. There’s no real corp identity there.

You have to remember you are trying to sell your corp to a propective recruit. A list of bullet points is fine, but you need more than that. A list of prospective recruit requirements would be good. Minimum SP, skill focus, race, etc. Without that, but a mention of an API check, how does anyone know if they qualify? Why should they contact you if they don’t know that they meet your requirements for entry?

That said. Do you accept Alts? I’ve a newish alt near Jita that I’m looking to develop into a transport/industry char.

Thanks for the pointers, you are right the post is a bit generic and I will look to recify that tonight. On the subject of alts, we have no hard and fast rules, you would be expected to declare that it’s an alt and as long as we don’t see a conflict of interests it shouldn’t be an issue.

I will echo Baa’s points also here are a few other things to think about:

1.) Search out other mission/mining corps adverts and see what they have emphasized. Get that Orca trained up so you can offer it ASAP. Miners tend to be either loners or are looking for corp boosting and hauling support to make it worth their while to join. Mission folks have no real game-based draw to join a corp unless you are running L5s…so what can you offer them? Active chat? Wide mission running experience with plenty of tips/tricks? Salvage support? Counter-ninja watch ops?

2.) You mention T1 and T2 industry, but the latter really relies heavily on research, yet you have no POS yet and you’re way up the pipe in Lonetrek. Where will you end up dropping POS? How are you going to support it?

3.) Up in Torrinos, you’ve got access to some good agents and while I wouldn’t call EC-P8R a great draw for PvP – can you say perma-camp, you are not far from low-sec entry sites as well. Mention that. You mention a killboard, which implies competitive PvP. Do you have an FC(s)? How often do you roam?

Just food for thought and I wish you well. I am in the neighborhood, but in US TZ. Nevertheless, I’ll keep an eye out for you guys.

    Good luck and fly safe.

What timezone is the majority of your Corp on and how many in the Corp?

    • November 24, 2010 at 01:19

      Hi Min,

We are a UK based corp (I believe you are in the UK as well?), the corp has 12 members, some are alts but for the majority of the time there are 4 of us online within the same time periods.

I finally got a chance to look at you guys in-game. I recommend matching your Corp Description block to your new recruitment forum text, which is very nice and a decided improvement.

Since you guys are up the pipe, you could also do the “drop a container w/ advert” along the pipe. I’m alsways checking those out as I fly by – you never know when I might find a corp in which I’m interested. Others probably do the same.

You may also want to hang around down at the school house systems and hook some newbie interest. Even though most will still be on trials and not yet of interest, a good convo can lead to them staying and joining your lads. They don’t tend to know anythng about the forums or the recruitment channel in-game.

    Cheers. Latro.
